RISTEX takes initiatives in dealing with social issues related to emerging infectious diseases, namely COVID-19, in a comprehensive manner by funding research in R&D programs and by conducting research activities.

RISTEX continues to play an important role in achieving the SDGs, through R&D that applies knowledge from natural sciences and humanities/social sciences, and that involves a broad range of stakeholders.

Following the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 and the Kumamoto Earthquakes of 2016, several projects by RISTEX provided supports and engaged in activities to resolve problems faced by the disaster's victims and affected areas, thereby contributing back the results of R&D to society.
