The Study Group Related to Science and Technology, and the Ethos of Knowledge

Efforts to discover the background to social issues

As the world faces a major turning point, what criteria should science and technology and learning depend on, and where should they be headed? To answer these questions, we need to learn from history about the relationships between the human spirit, societal norms, culture, and science and technology and discuss issues from various viewpoints.

Under the direction of Dr. Hiroyuki ABE,Professor Emeritus at Tohoku University, RISTEX established the Study

Group Related to Science and Technology, and the Ethos of Knowledge in 2007.

The study group has deepened discussions on various kinds of discourse, activities, ethos and social climates surrounding academics and science and technology, with lectures by key figures who have been active not only in the field of sciences, but also in the field of humanities, social sciences, industry and government.

The proceedings of lectures given at this study group are available on our website. The results of research activities are compiled and published in books.
