The Science of Science, Technology and Innovation Policy is a RISTEX R&D program that focuses on ways of ensuring that R&D outcomes make a substantive contribution to policymaking. It aims to ensure not only that contribution to policymaking is one of the criteria for the selection of proposals submitted for public research programs, but also that selected R&D proposals produce outcomes that actually do contribute to real-world policymaking. To aid in the achievement of this goal, the program has so far held three international workshops with the aim of garnering advice from overseas.
1st workshop December 12, 2012 Prof. Andrew Stirling of Sussex University (UK) and Dr. Martha Russell of Stanford University (USA) were invited to participate in a lively exchange of views on the Nagaoka Project and Matsuura Project as well as on implementation of the program as a whole.
2nd workshop December 5, 2013 Dr. Barend van der Meulen of the Rathenau Institute (Netherlands) and Dr. Thomas Stahlecker of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (Germany) were invited for the discussion on the theme of "Practice and Generalization in Regions". Nagata Project and Amano Project were introduced and discussed from an international perspective.
3rd workshop July 11, 2014 This workshop focused on technology assessment (TA) in response to a research exchange proposal from the Institutefor Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany.
