RISETX hold lectures given by researchers and practitioners in various fields and offers a forum for active discussion concerning each topics among governmental institutions, universities and private sectors.

Dr. Jan Staman, Director of the Rathenau Institute in cooperation with JST-RISTEX/ NISTEP/GRIPS/ gave a lecture on 10 October. The topic was on "How to Promote Trust in Periods of Disruptive Emergencies".
During the outbreak of disruptive emergencies are considered by citizens as acts of god and there is during that period of time a strong desire for goodwill for governmental action.
In this regard, Dr. Staman talked about how and what the trust problems can be related to then, how Ministers should act and what the most important in the crisis is based on his big insight through his career that he spent eight years on the research staff of Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Department of Domestic Animals) before going on to hold various appointments at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in The Hague.
During the lecture, he also touched on the usage of the instruments in the TA (Technology Assessment) at emergency, how TA plays a role in social contexts well as how scientists should be used.

Dr. Turekian seized the opportunity to convey the new role and its perspective S&T of U.S. Foreign Policy. He implied the different perspective in terms of science diplomacy between U.S. and Japan.

Mr. Watkins addressed the role of the World Bank to enhance partnerships, the method of World Bank and partner organizations would work together and the function of the World Bank in terms of supporting programs such as SATREPS to collaborate with Japan.

Governance in Science and Technology: citizens engagement for social innovation ?
Dr. Berloznik drew concrete examples from Technology Assessment (TA) practices, with S&T governance shown to stress the point that (citizen) participation is a useful instrument to tackle the challenges to make social innovation and the new cornerstone for future S&T Innovation policy.

Dr. Neureiter commented on the results of the midterm elections and talked about the latest developments in science diplomacy in the US with examples from North Korea, Iran, Syria and Myanmar, and the Obama Administration's science outreach to the Muslim world.
