Presentation at 2018 MRS Fall Meeting & Exhibit (Boston, MA, November 27-29, 2018)

At the Materials Research Society (MRS) Fall Meeting & Exhibit held in Boston, JST's Department of Intellectual Property Management exhibited eight patented technologies and samples close to our organization since the time of filing, and one patented technology of Kwansei Gakuin University. JST with one trainee from Kwansei Gakuin University conducted technical explanations and introduced our organization to visitors.

October 2018

JST and NSF signed MOC (Kyoto, Japan, October 16, 2018)

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for research collaboration between JST and NSF on 7th October 2018 at Kyoto International Conference Center.


September 2018

JST booth at KIDfest, KID Museum (Washington, D.C., September 23, 2018)

JST had its own a booth at the science and education event "KIDfest" hosted by the child-friendly KID Museum. This was in response to a participation request we received at the USA Science & Engineering Festival in April. In addition to introducing our organization, we distributed the Science Window English Edition and presented therapy robot Paro to a steady stream of visitors.

August 2018

JST visits the North Carolina State University, Research Triangle Park (Raleigh, NC, August 29-30, 2018)

JST visited the North Carolina State University, one of the nation's leading clusters, the core university of the Research Triangle Park, with NEDO and Nagoya University. We introduced the contents of our business and organization to the vice president of research and university executives, and exchanged opinions on the possibility of collaboration in future.

Dr. Nakamura, Senior Advisor of JST, took part in the UN High-Level Political Forum (New York, NY, August 6, 2018)

Dr. Michiharu Nakamura, Senior Advisor of JST, attended the 3rd High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from July 9 to 18, 2018 at the UN Headquarters in New York.


June 2018

JST attends US-Japan Digital Innovation Hub Summit (Washington, D.C., June 28, 2018)

JST participated in events related to the Japan-US Digital Innovation Hub. The Open Summit was held at Arizona State University (ASU) Washington Center, and the closed WS was held at the Japanese Embassy. Approximately 80 people from universities and research institutes in Japan and the United States, including NSF and AAAS, participated in each event and discussed how to strengthen collaboration between universities in the digital field, promotion and education about cyber security etc. In addition, JST Executive Director Ms. Shirokizawa gave presentations at both events.

The third annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (New York, NY, June 5-6, 2018)

The third annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum) took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. JST attended the Forum to discuss the contribution of science, technology and innovation to the SDGs.

May 2018

JST attends 2018 Science Olympiad National Tournament (Fort Collins, CO, May 18-19, 2018)

The National Science Olympiad Competition was held at Colorado State University. Eight students of Japan's Eiko Gakuen High School, the winning team of the 7th Annual Japan High School Science Championships, participated in the event. These eight students participated in four competitions as a Global Ambassador Team with the support of the Department for Promotion of Science Education of JST, and also held a Swap Meet to exchange commemorative items with the US state teams. The Japanese team was actively promoting exchanges with American science-loving high school students through the opening and award ceremonies.

April 2018

The USA Science & Engineering Festival and the 58th Sakura Matsuri 2019 - Japanese Street Festival (Washington, D.C., April 7, 2018)

JST exhibited booths at two major events, the National Science and Technology Festival and the Sakura Matsuri. As part of our outreach activities we introduced the CREST research results if the "3D Ambiguous Object" project by Meiji University and Prof. Sugihara and the therapy robot "PARO" developed by AIST and Prof. Shibata. We also introduced JST's business and distributed the English version of Science Window.

March 2018

ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit 2018 (National Harbor, MD, March 13-15, 2018)

JST's ALCA (Advanced Low Carbon Technology Research and Development Program) exhibited at the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit 2018. While introducing "Strong Aerogels for Thermal Superinsulation", a result of this program, we worked to build a network with visitors.
