International Cooperation

To further the JST mission to strengthen scientific cooperation between JST and our counterpart organizations, including JST and local scientists and researchers, the Washington, D.C. office strategically creates engagement opportunities. We believe long lasting efforts to connect people to science will not only contribute to the development of science and technology, but also to the well-being of society.

National Science Foundation (NSF)

JST and the National Science Foundation (NSF) have a long history of collaboration. The Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for Research Collaboration between JST and NSF signed on 7th October 2018 established a framework that builds on trust and mutual understanding to facilitate more extensive collaboration. Along those lines, since 2020, JST and NSF have been promoting research collaboration under the leadership of top leaders of both organizations in line with the four thematic pillars - AI&Robotics, Quantum Science, Resilience and young researchers' exchange.

Stanford University

JST and Stanford University is working together to create a research collaboration platform among universities, research institutes, and companies in Japan and the US West Coast utilizing strong characters of those two institutes as a “hub”. For example, based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) concluded in 2021 between Department of International Affairs, JST and Anesthesia Department, Stanford School of Medicine, an ongoing Nagoya-Stanford Cohort study (NaSC) is comparing the differences in immune responses in each population group with specific common attributes in Japan and the U.S.

Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils (GFCC)

JST is a member and long-standing partner of GFCC collaborating under the motto of “accelerating competitiveness through collaboration”. With GFCC and other member organizations, JST is developing concepts, initiatives and tools to achieve innovation, productivity and prosperity in nations, regions and cities. For example, since 2021, we have created several initiatives sharing the keyword of "Resilience" with GFCC and Queen Mary University of London.
