About SIP- SM4I

What SIP (Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program) is

SIP is a national program led by the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTI) of the Japanese Government with interdisciplinary management to realize scientific and technological innovation in our country. It addresses 23 subjects - 11 subjects in the first phase since FY2014, 12 subjects in the second one since FY 2018 (as of August FY2018) - which are crucial for society and are leading the world that could contribute to the revival of the economy in Japan. Under the strong leadership of Program Directors (PD) for each subject, it promotes interdisciplinary research and development covering from fundamental study to industrial application with industry-academia-government cooperation.

Structure of Research Conduct

  • A Promoting Committee has been established for consolidating views of the ministries and is held with Program Director as a chairperson and the related ministries participating.
  • The Governing Board is consisted of the executive members of CSTI and is held as necessary in order to receive evaluation and advice for all of the subjects.
