Through my engagement in this program, I have come to realize that loneliness and isolation are “close to home” issues that can affect anyone unexpectedly and are extremely difficult to overcome. Moreover, I have come to understand that as the problem persists and intensifies, individuals are more likely to remain isolated, underscoring the critical importance of prevention. Though the thin connections with family members or community sometimes make it difficult to recognize the severity of the situation, I envision this program creating and maintaining a mechanism that enables the affected individuals or a third party to identify the problem early or seek help, even remotely, using rapidly advancing technology.
