Overview

In this technology area, we promote research and development of technologies, materials, and chemical processes that enable efficient and environmentally low-impact recycling of resources and contribute significantly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In order to achieve carbon neutrality, the importance of capturing and recycling carbon and other resources is increasing worldwide. For example, the capture and recycling of greenhouse gases from industrial exhaust, which are major sources of greenhouse gas emissions, are expected to contribute significantly to carbon neutrality. Therefore, there is a need to establish technologies for energy-saving and highly efficient capture and separation of greenhouse gases, and to develop new processes for synthesizing high-performance and highly functional chemicals and fuels from greenhouse gases directly or from biomass that has absorbed and fixed greenhouse gases. In addition, the production of storage batteries, fuel cells, and solar cells are expected to increase in the future in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, the supply of metal resources as raw materials and the countries that produce them are limited, and the recycling of existing resources is crutial for a stable supply of raw materials. Therefore, we aim to develop technologies, materials, and chemical processes that will enable the recycling and utilization of organic and inorganic resources, making significant contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
