Research Theme

The aim of this research is to analyze the mechanisms by which aureochrome mediates various photomorphogenic responses. I have shown that this photoactivated transcription regulator is common among diverse photosynthetic stramenopiles, which are among the main primary producers in the hydrosphere. The research in this project will be extended by a systematic search for as yet undiscovered photoreceptor molecules involved in other important photoresponses such as chloroplast movement. This research will contribute to a widening and deepening of our knowledge of algal physiology, bringing advances in the fields of applied phycology and aquaculture in Japan.
