Tadashi Kobayashi is former an executive vice president of Osaka University. He is also a Director of Program for Education and Research on Science and Technology in Public Sphere (STiPS), and was a Professor and Vice Director of Center for the Study of Communication-Design, Osaka University. He is also a member of Science Council Japan, and Principal Fellow of Research Institute of Science and Technology for Society(RISTEX), JST.
His research interests include philosophy of science, science, technology and society (STS) studies. His publications include University as a Research Site: What Knowledge is for? (editor, Iwanami Shoten, 2013), The Age of Trans-Science (NTT Publications, 2007), Lessons from Fukushima (ed. by Y. Fujigaki, Springer, 2015) .
He also served as a member of organizers and a facilitator of the first Nation-wide Consensus Conference on GMOs (2000), the first President of Japanese Society for Science and Technology Studies (2001- 2003), a Director of “World Wide Views on Global Warming Project” in Japan (2009).

Prof. Shinichi Kobayashi is a Director of Research Institute of Higher Education (RIHE) at Hiroshima University, Japan. He earned BA in Humanities at University of Tsukuba in 1979, MA in Policy Sciences at University of Tsukuba in 1982. His has worked in the field of social and policy studies in Higher Education and Science and Technology.

Yuko Fujigaki is a Professor and served as a Vice Dean of College & Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo (2015-2017). Her major is STS (Science and Technology Studies) and Scientometrics. She served as the President of JSSTS (Japanese Society of Science and Technology Studies) (2013-2017) and was the Program Chair of the joint international conference of 4S (Society for Social Studies of Science) and JSSTS in 2010. She edited a book on “Case Analysis and Theoretical Concepts for Science and Technology Studies” (Univ. of Tokyo Press, 2005) and “Lessons From Fukushima - Japanese Case Studies on Science, Technology and Society“(Springer, 2015). She also writes a book on “The Public Ethic and Spirit of Specialism”(Univ. of Tokyo Press, 2003) and edited a book on “Theoretical Perspective for Science Communication”(Univ. of Tokyo Press, 2008). She is now an editorial advisor of “Social Studies of Science” and “Science and Public Policy”, and an associate editor of “East Asian Science, Technology and Society: An International Journal”. In Japan, she is now a member of committee of human resource in Advisory Board on Science, Technology and Research in Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the chair of the Advisory Board of FOS (Frontier of Science) in Japanese Society of Promotion of Science, (2008-) and Club-member of Science Council of Japan (2011-).

Atsuo Kishimoto works for the Institute for Datability Science, Osaka University. His research focuses on addressing risks stemming from ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) accompanying research and development of emerging technologies, in particular, big data analytics and AI. He graduated from Kyoto University with a Ph.D. (Economics) degree in 1998. He has worked at the Department of Safety Engineering from 1998 to 2001, Research Center for Chemical Risk Management from 2001 to 2008, and Research Institute of Science for Safety and Sustainability from 2008 to 2014 as a research group leader in the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) specialized in the risk assessment and economic analysis of environmental, safety and health regulations. He moved to the University of Tokyo in 2014 as a project professor at the Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP). Finally, he moved to Osaka University in 2017. He is a member of several governmental councils, including the Radiation Council.

Professor KONAGAYA Akihiko received his Master of Science and Dr. of Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology (TITECH) in 1980 and 1995, respectively.
In 1980, after his graduation of information science master course, he entered in NEC Corporation for the development of advanced computer systems including logic programming and parallel computing.
In 1997, he became a professor of Knowledge Science School in Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST).
In 2003, he became a project director of Genome Information Science Group in Genome Science Center (GSC) in RIKEN.
In 2009, he became a professor of the department of Computational Intelligence and Systems Science in Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Since September 2019, he has been a professor emeritus of Tokyo Institute of Technology.
He has also been a president of NPO Chem-Bio Informatics Society, one of the largest society in the field of in silico drug discovery since 2012.
In his research carrier, he has researched and developed various advanced computer systems in interdisciplinary fields such as bio-informatics, chemo-informatics and molecular robotics, to name a few. In these days, he is very active for the promotion of ELSI in molecular robotics.

Dr. Shirai joined Kyoto University Research Administrator Office (KURA) in March 2012. KURA was officially launched in April 2012 as an organization to provide academic support and develop an environment where researchers can focus on their research. By planning and operating research projects together with researchers, KURA aims at bringing the social and academic impacts of their research back to society.
Dr. Shirai did his PhD in the field of developmental biology. In April 2006, he changed his academic discipline and started working on science communication as a program-specific assistant professor at Graduate School of Biostudies, Kyoto University. In April 2008, he moved to Institute for Research in Humanities, Kyoto University and joined the Research Unit for the ELSI of Genomics. The unit was established to conduct scientific research on innovative areas (Genome Science) with Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research under the auspices of MEXT. His role was to study ELSI and governance of research in life sciences.
Dr. Shirai is engaged mainly in three different tasks in KURA over the last five years: supporting public relations for researchers, designing and operating internal funds to promote interdisciplinary research, and creating professional networks of Japanese research administrators. He is also involved with a governmental project to design a certification system for Japanese research administrators.

KAMISATO, Tatsuhiro, Ph.D., was born in 1967 and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Tokyo, where he went on to complete his doctoral studies in the History and Philosophy of Science. His expertise has been in history of science and science and technology studies (STS), with a particular focus on risk issues related to food, environment, energy, and IT. After finishing graduate school, Kamisato worked as a research staff member at Mitsubishi Kagaku Institute for Life Sciences (MITILS) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), as well as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Tokyo and Osaka University. Currently, he is a professor at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences of Chiba University. He has also been a guest editorial writer at The Asahi Shimbun since 2014. His publications include Shokuhin Risuku: BSE to Modaniti (Food Risk: BSE and Modernity) (2005), Bunmei Tantei no Bouken (The Adventures of a Civilization Detective) (2014) and Blockchain to iu Sekai Kakumei (The blockchain as a world revolution) (2019). He also once worked as an administrative officer at the former Science and Technology Agency (presently MEXT). Kamisato is currently a Visiting Professor at Osaka University and a specially appointed member of the Science Council of Japan.

Emmanuel Candès is the Barnum-Simons Chair in Mathematics and Statistics, and Professor of Electrical Engineering (by courtesy) at Stanford University. Until 2009, he was the Ronald and Maxine Linde Professor of Applied and Computational Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology. Emmanuel Candès graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique in 1993 with a degree in science and engineering, and received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University in 1998.

【After obtaining his PhD in theoretical physics at Leiden University in 1982, Wim van Saarloos joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in the USA as a researcher. In 1991 he returned to Leiden University in the Netherlands in 1991. His research as a professor of theoretical physics focused on statistical physics, nonequilibrium pattern formation and soft condensed matter physics. While in Leiden he was also the founder and long-time director of the Lorentz Center (1997-2009), an international workshop center in the sciences. In 2009 he became the director of the national foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) in the Netherlands, which was part of the national funding agency NWO, and which was the parent organization of four research institutes. In 2015 and 2016, he led the preparation for the transition to the new NWO organization. As of 2017, Wim van Saarloos is back at Leiden University as a professor, combining his position first with that of vice president, and since June 1 2018, with that of president of the KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences).】

Professor Masato Wakayama is Executive Vice President in charge of Global Strategy and Advancement as well as Industry-Academia-Government collaboration. He obtained PhD from Hiroshima University in 1985. His research interests include Number Theory and Representation Theory.
He joined Kyushu University as Associate Professor in 1994, became Professor of mathematics in 1997, and has been Distinguished Professor since 2009. He has contributed his experience and expertise to both academic works and university administration. Led by him, as the Founding Director of the Institute of Mathematics for Industry (IMI) (2011-2014), IMI demonstrated the international profile of research at Kyushu and became one of the Joint Usage / Research Centers of MEXT in 2013. Before taking up the current position, he held various leadership positions in Kyushu University, which include Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Graduate School of Mathematics (2006-2010), and Vice President for Education (2010-2014).
The oversea experience includes Visiting Fellow at Princeton University (1995-1996), Visiting Professor at University of Bologna (1997, 1999, 2000 and 2006), at Korea Institute for Advanced Study (2001), and Distinguished Lecturer at Indiana University (2013). From 2014, he is the chair of Asia Pacific Consortium of Mathematics for Industry.

Hiroshi Suito graduated from Department of Physics, Chiba University in 1986. After working at several IT companies, he obtained his PhD degree in 1998 from Chiba University. He was appointed as an associate professor at Department of Environmental and Mathematical Science, Okayama University in 2002. In 2007, he joined the Japan Science and Technology Agency Mathematics Program titled “Alliance for Breakthrough between Mathematics and Sciences”, through which he has conducted new collaborative work with medical doctors. In 2017, he moved to Tohoku University. Now he is a professor and deputy director at Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University. He was awarded the Grand Prize of the Second H. Fujiwara Mathematical Science Award in 2013, MIMS Mimura award in 2018, and Commendation for Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan.
