Councilor for Innovation Promotion; Deputy Director General for Science, Technology and Innovation
Mr. Sato is Councilor for Innovation Promotion (Cabinet Secretariat) and Deputy Director General for Science, Technology and Innovation (Cabinet Office), Japan. He joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI: Current METI), Government of Japan in 1988. Besides his experience as government official, he has covered a wide variety of field in his career from visiting professor in the academic area to vice governor in local government and to First Secretary at the Mission of Japan to the European Union (Brussels) in the diplomatic area. Mr. Sato holds a master’s degree in mathematics of the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Tokyo. He completed a finance course at the School of HEC in Paris.
Michinari Hamaguchi earned his PhD in medicine from Nagoya University. He was appointed Research Associate at the Nagoya University School of Medicine in 1980, and since then, he had been working at Nagoya University, except for the time he pursued his research at the Rockefeller University in the U.S. from 1985-1988. He served as the President of Nagoya University from Apr. 2009 – Mar. 2015 before becoming the President of JST in Oct. 2015. He currently serves as Chairperson of the Council for Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan.
