General Description of the Research Project We apply and demonstrate a comprehensive approach to mitigate disasters from earthquakes and tsunamis by evaluating their risk in Mexico. We specifically focus on three activities which involve collaboration with each of the others: (1) Expansion of ocean bottom seismic and geodetic networks offshore Guerrero, Mexico, to enhance self-reliant development of ocean bottom observation technology in Mexico and Latin American communities through Japanese collaboration. (2) The establishment of best evacuation routes and procedures based on tsunami scenarios by considering the collapses of buildings due to strong motion from large earthquakes, after evaluating the site response and earthquake resistance of the structures in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. (3)Application and demonstration of a novel disaster mitigation program using a visual ethnographical approach to the communities along the coastline of Gurrero. We aim to achieve SDGs, especially related to earthquake-tsunami disaster mitigation in Mexico based on the above activities.
