Outline

In the ER, the synthesis and degradation of proteins are strictly regulated and thus the protein homestasis (proteostasis) is maintained. In the ER, the maintenance of calcium homeostasis and redox homeostasis is also critical issues. Recently, we found a novel ER reductase, ERdj5, not only regulates the ER protein quality control by acceleratiing the degradation of misfolded proteins in the ER (ERAD) but also regulates the calcium influx through regulating the calcium ATPase on the ER membrane (SERCA2b). In this project, we focus the structural basis of ERdj5 in calcium regulation as well as in the ERAD.
