Produce biofuel from wastes using technology appropriate to the local conditions
A lot of palm oil mills produce massive amounts of biomass wastes in Indonesia. However, because the country lacks energy conversion processes suitable to the local economic and technological conditions, only a small percentage of the wastes is utilized. This project aims to develop a biomass wastes gasification process based on fluid catalytic cracking that makes use of clay catalyst, as well as a process that synthesizes methanol from the product gas. By design, installation and operation of a demonstration plant for the process, researchers attempt to develop biomass conversion technology appropriate to Indonesia.
Biomass energy conversion technology enhances the sustainability of Asian societies
If this biomass conversion technology takes hold in Indonesia, it will lead to the creation of job opportunities domestically and in other Asian countries, as well as in developed nations. This research has a potential to bring enhancement in the use of biomass energy as a renewable and environmentally friendly energy resource that does not cause global warming.
