Overview

This research considers how to occupy the “mixed traffic” roads that are being disrupted by competing mobility. First, [1] we will face the fundamental question of what “traffic” is. Next, [2] we will discuss what “road” means, going back to the basic idea (human rights, history of traffic, psychological impact of emerging technologies on people) to examine the priority of traffic that contributes to the protection of pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. Based on these considerations, we will clarify [3] who should be given “the road” (how to distribute/prioritize to each party), according to regional/urban development plans. By organizing and evaluating the motion characteristics of various personal mobility vehicles (e.g., electric kickboards), figuring out unnatural behavior of automated vehicles, verifying the percentage and risk of automated delivery robots on the sidewalk, the perceived risk and discomfort of people around delivery gig workers and the width of the road they occupy, etc. In addition to providing technical advice, the project will develop guidelines for the distribution of roads and formulate and propose a code of conduct.
