Overview

Under uncertain conditions, scientific experts are responsible for engaging the public throughout their advice with their knowledge and wisdom. However, such struggles could not be as neutral as the experts believe, and inevitably evoke arguments related to ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI). As we observe throughout the COVID-19 cases, such disputes mainly occur in the media, incubated in the entangled information network of traditional mass media and social media.
In this project, we would scrutinize the mechanism of the construction of ELSI by using computational social science and science and technology studies methodologies. We will start from already obtained enormous media datasets about COVID-19 arguments and study the construction process of the imaginary of emerging science and technologies advents in the upcoming society. Through this project, we would cultivate a path of responsible research and innovation (RRI) that could settle emerging expert knowledge into society.
