Purpose of the symposium

In 2018, the Government of Japan announced the establishment of the Moonshot Research and Development Program.
With the aim to develop radical solutions for difficult societal issues of various kinds, the Moonshot R&D Program will set ambitious Moonshot Goals which inspires people in the world, and will orchestrate challenging research and development to achieve the goals, gathering the wisdom of scientists from around the world.
The Government of Japan, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) are organizing a Moonshot International Symposium in December, 2019.
The major objectives of the symposium are to discuss innovative program management of Moonshot research and to examine the Moonshot Goals to be set for the Moonshot R&D Program by collecting world’s brightest wisdom. In addition, the symposium is an opportunity to further publicize the Moonshot R&D Program to the world and to encourage participation of researchers from academia and industry around the world in the program.
