Outline

This study improves analytical techniques for determination of long lived nuclides such as carbon-14 and iodine-129 that are present at trace amounts in marine environments. The goal is to develop novel approaches to obtain information regarding behavior of marine organisms (space scale information) as well as the time scale of organic matter cycling within ecosystems (time scale information). This study contributes to provide fundamental tools that assist in broadening research perspectives in marine ecosystem and biodiversity studies. Also, the scientific information necessary for efficient ecosystem conservation and management is expected to be obtained.
