Symposium
Role and Responsibility of Scientists in the response
to TEPCO Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Accident

Objective

TEPCO Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Accident is an unprecedented disaster with great magnitude. How to tackle this accident will hugely impact to our future, in which scientists can make great contribution, and the scientists and the science community should do so with their utmost responsibility. The issue will last long, and therefore every stakeholder not only scientist but also the others concerned must work together continually.
In order to make this happen, we need to make a framework where the expertise and experience of scientists can be comprehensively utilized beyond disciplines, generations, and country borders; where scientists can properly meet the requirements and expectations from citizens, national and local governments; and where scientists can take action based on sufficient information, and so on.
From this perspective, in this Symposium, we will deepen our discussion on what the roles and responsibilities of scientists should be with respect to the response to this accident.
