Management Structure
Governing Committee :
supervise and oversee the overall management of the program and to deliberate on important operational matters
Program Director (PD) :
Responsible for overall R&D with the cooperation of external advisors and other experts, specifically regarding the following:
  • Strategic development of a management plan (portfolio) that outlines policies for the combination of R&D projects and resource allocation, to achieve their Moonshot Goal
  • Selection of Project Managers (PMs) who are responsible for proposing and promoting R&D projects
  • Deciding on and evaluating the implementation of R&D projects, as well as giving instructions to the PMs based on the management of the progress of R&D projects
Mathematical Sciences Subcommittee and ELSI (Ethical, Legal and Social Issues) Subcommittee :
Established at JST to provide cross-sectoral support
Project Manager (PM) :
Proposes and promotes R&D under the direction of the PD, specifically regarding the following:
  • Formulation of scenarios to achieve their Moonshot Goal and realize R&D concepts
  • Designing of R&D projects
  • Establishment of R&D structure
  • Management of R&D project implementation
Advisory Board :
Consists of advisors (including SPDs) who are external experts and support the PD in program management and project evaluation.
