Overview

Optics and photonics have been contributing to both industries and academia through the past influential research and development, and have been developing. In this research area, we further advance the abovementioned use the natural characteristics of light and aim at creating the optics and photonics based on the innovative principle on the basis of unique ideas. Furthermore, we look for ideal situations and goals in the future to create a completely new light-applying field through interactions with other science and technology fields from the viewpoint of backcasting.

Specifically, we pursue the research and development of specific and challenging optics and photonics for accomplishing specific contributions in order to resolve many problems such as those related to realizing a sustainable society, supporting the well-provided society, and acquiring the knowledge to find a way to the future by finding resolving these problems through the optical devices as well as measurement and analysis techniques based on the new ideals different from conventional principles and technologies. Moreover, it is essential to find the solution for the afore-mentioned problems by developing the proposals and verifications of nanoprocessing and the new principles and cultivation of technologies in understanding new living bodies and medical systems. The development of optic information processing systems based on mathematical science, the environment monitoring using light and the creation of the environmental control and maintenance as well as securing food safety are also included as solutions to these problems.
