Research Term: Feb 2015 - Mar 2020
Special Extension Period: Apr 2020 - Mar 2021
Grant Number: JPMJER1403

This project pioneers ‘Phase Imaging’ that visualizes the phase information of quantum beams (X-rays, neutrons, electrons, and so on) passing through objects. Phase imaging is different from phase-contrast imaging in that quantitative measurement of phase information is realized and therefore three-dimensional image reconstruction is feasible. The technology of X-ray phase imaging developed so far will be translated to the fields of neutrons and electrons, and we will establish an advanced imaging platform for utilizing various quantum beams complementarily. Also, phase image processing group will introduce up-to-date image analysis technology into phase imaging to make full use of the potential of phase imaging.

This project contributes to the modern society with increased concern for safe, secure, and health by depicting unrevealed structures and properties of matter ranging from advanced raw materials, composite materials, devices, to products in multi-scale resolutions and field of views.
