Japan-Vietnam Joint Call for Proposals
The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), in order to promote international research interaction and exchange among researchers, jointly call proposals for Japan‒Vietnam collaborative research projects. Please check the details of the open call from the link below. For information on the awarded projects, please refer to the "Projects" page.
Past Calls for Proposals
The 1st Call: Japan-Vietnam Joint Call for Proposals on "Semiconductors"
The 2nd Call: Japan-Vietnam Joint Call for Proposals on "Semiconductors"
In the second call for proposals, following the first, we will continue to support international collaborative research in the field of "semiconductors" between researchers in Japan and Vietnam. A joint call for collaborative research projects is scheduled as outlined below. Please note that this call also includes support for fostering Vietnamese early career researcher (ECR) candidates*. For details, please refer to the application guidelines, which will be published after launching the call.
We are also planning to hold an information session for Japan-side applicants regarding the call for proposals. The schedule will be announced when the call begins, but we recommend that those interested in applying register in advance.
JST will allocate and provide support for researchers' capacity buiding--accommodation costs (equivalent to living expenses) and research expenses--up to a maximum of 3.9 million yen per person per year, to Vietnamese ECR candidates who aim to obtain the doctoral degree while engaging in international collaborative research.
As part of the "Researcher Eligibility for MST support" requirements, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the institutions to which both principal investigators (PIs) belong is required. This MoU must specify the main tasks of both parties; provisional execution plan; rules for sharing of research result; and contributed resources of both parties, in which, the Japan-side PI's contribution is exchangeable. These contributed resources include financial resources, workforce, facilities and other necessary resources. Please confirm the specific details through the PI on the Vietnam side and proceed with preparations for the early conclusion of the MoU.
Briefing Session for Japan-side PIs (Online)
We will hold an information session for Japanese applicants regarding the Japan-Vietnam "Semiconductors" international joint call for proposals. The schedule will be announced once confirmed, so if you are interested in applying, please register in advance. Please note that the session will be conducted in Japanese.

How to Apply
Please complete the joint application forms above and submit them via e-Rad (The Cross-ministerial R&D Management System). This system is the designated platform for Japan-side PIs to submit their forms.
- Both applicants, Japan-side and Vietnam-side PIs, must prepare an identical proposal, which they must then submit to JST from the Japan-side PI and to MOST from the Vietnam-side PI, respectively.
- The Japan-side PI must also submit another Japanese application form (appendix for Japan-side PIs).
- Both PIs must ensure no differences in the content of the proposals submitted to JST and MOST. Following the joint application forms above and submitting all required documents to both JST and MOST by the deadline are crucial, as failure to do so will result in the proposal being rejected. Please also be aware of both countries' "Research Eligibility" section in the guidelines.
Notifications
- As part of the "Researcher Eligibility for MST support" requirements, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the institutions to which both principal investigators belong is required. Please confirm preparations for the early conclusion of this MoU through the principal investigator on the counterpart side.
- The "Confirmation Form (確認書 in the Japanese application form (appendix for Japan-side PIs))" must be stamped by the head of the institution. Please note that in the case of a university/college, it is the president, not the dean. There is no need to mail the original. If you omit the official seal, please follow the prescribed procedure at your institution before submitting the form.
- Japan-side PIs must have completed a research ethics training program at their institution and then declare the completion of the program to JST by the deadline of the call for proposals. Unless applicants complete a research ethics training program, their application will be deemed ineligible for funding. For details, please refer to the application guidelines (appendix for Japan-side PIs, 公募要領 別紙).
