An anaerobic fermentative bacterium and a methanogenic archaeon establish a syntrophic consortium which facilitates them to convert organic acids to methane and exert different stresse responses.

We consider that they provide a good model for addressing how new functions are emerged in biological consortia.

This research project will elucidate dynamic mechanisms of metabolic and signal network fusions using microarrays and other omic techniques.
