Message from Sakakibara, Hitoshi FOREST Program Officer

FOREST Program Officer:Sakakibara, Hitoshi(Professor, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University)

Agricultural science is an important academic field that supports human life activities from the production of food and biological resources to the utilization of biological resources, the use of biological functions, and the symbiotic environment of living organisms. It also seeks to improve and enrich lives through the resolution of various issues related to food, the environment, and health. In the past, human beings have prospered through the invention of breeding and fermentation technologies and the utilization of diverse biological resources. However, with population growth and industrial development, a variety of problems are emerging, ranging from the level of individual living organisms to the entire planet. To build a sustainable society for the future and hand over a prosperous society and environment to the next generation, expectations for the creation of new innovations from the field of agricultural sciences are extremely high. The Fusion Oriented Research for Disruptive Science and Technology Program supports challenging research that will lead to the creation of innovations that will change the future.

This panel welcomes research proposals that will create new trends in research in agriculture-related fields. We would like you to propose bold ideas without fear of failure and without being caught up in setting short-term goals. However, proposals should be based on the strengths of the researcher’s own research. Logical explanations of how basic research results can lead to breakthroughs in the field of agricultural science are also required.

In this panel, researchers who are active at the forefront of a wide range of related fields, including plants, microorganisms, animals, food, materials, the environment, and information, participate as advisors. POs and advisors will work together to provide advice on the research of selected participants and support their interactions with other researchers inside and outside the panel. We look forward to receiving ambitious proposals from a wide range of fields. We also expect active applications from female researchers.
