Message from Furuhara, Tadashi FOREST Program Officer

FOREST Program Officer:Furuhara, Tadashi(Professor, Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University)

Our panel will target a wide range of metallic and inorganic materials, including metals, ceramics, and semiconductors, covering both basic science related to material properties and application development, including material creation processes and environmental adaptation.

Since the FOREST program offers seven-year support as a rule, with a maximum of ten years, it is only natural that the research is not a one-off project, but rather a body of solid research with a broad perspective. We expect not only highly original and innovative research, but also research aimed a solving problems, and which sets high goals and aims for progress. We who are engaged in fusion project are expected to grow not only as leaders in our fields in Japan but also as global researchers who can compete with the rest of the world. In the process of your research, you will have a chance to have many stimulating meetings with other researchers in and outside of your field. We, the FOREST POs and advisors, will support you in developing your own “character” while at the same time not becoming self-absorbed, looking instead to engage in friendly competition with other researchers, learn from each other, and build cooperative relationships to nurture seeds for the creation of new fields of research.

We hope that many researchers will take up the challenge of this project and promote original, creative, and high-impact research, and that their findings and results will lead to innovations and value creation that will have a significant impact on the world. We look forward to receiving many ambitious research proposals.
