Message from Arita,Makoto FOREST Program Officer

FOREST Program Officer:Arita, Makoto(Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy, Keio University)

This panel covers a wide range of research areas in life sciences, mainly pharmaceutical and medical sciences. Advances in science and technology are essential to the promotion of basic research from a long-term perspective, and the relationship between the two is often compared to wheels on a car. In recent years, breakthrough in analytical technologies and information science have dramatically advanced our integrated understanding of complex biology and pathophysiological conditions.

The JST-FOREST program, which aims to create seeds that lead to disruptive innovations, does not need to be bound by the framework of existing research fields, and we greatly welcome research proposals that have a sense of scale with an eye toward future development. The discovery of new molecules and the elucidation of their interactions have provided fundamental solutions to previously unexplained biological phenomena, and have served as the basis for the formation and development of new scientific fields. By facing the mechanisms of life created by nature from multiple perspectives, rather than from a single perspective, one can come into contact with a part of the essence of life and have a breathtaking experience.

We hope young researchers will share with us the process of fostering their passion through the diversity and originality of research fields and honest, high quality science. Please do not be afraid of failure and propose innovative research based on free ideas.
