社会の営みの一部として科学をとらえると、そのステークホルダーはきわめて多様です。アカデミア、ビジネスセクタ、行政、市民は科学技術によってどれほど影響されるのでしょうか？また、科学技術は、アカデミア、ビジネスセクタ、行政、市民によってどのように発展していくのでしょうか？このプレナリーセッションでは、各界からリーダーをお招きし、科学が基盤に浸透した現代社会における多様なステークホルダーとの対話が重要と考え、その場としてのサイエンスアゴラの目指すべき姿について討論を行います。来年10周年を迎えるサイエンスアゴラが見据える今後の展望について、主催者からのメッセージを心よりお届け致します。
If you thought about who science affects in society today, you would come up with a very long list of stakeholders. Academia, businesses, governments, and the public are all affected by science, but the real question is by how much? Also, how are these groups going to affect the future development of science? In this plenary session we invite leaders from different fields to share their views, and discuss how Science Agora should evolve in today's changing world.

Michiharu Nakamura pioneered semiconductor DFB laser development at Hitachi Central Research Laboratory after completing his studies at the University of Tokyo. He was then appointed Executive Vice President and Executive Officer of Hitachi Ltd., before serving as Board of Director until September 2011. He has served for the Industrial R&D Committee of the Japan Business Federation, Council of Competitiveness Japan, and Nanotechnology Business Creation Initiative (NBCI).

Professor Sir Peter Gluckman trained in paediatric endocrinology. He was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, then foundation director of the Liggins Institute at the University of Auckland. In 2009 he was appointed the first Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of New Zealand and in the same year conferred a knighthood. He is a recipient of New Zealand's highest scientific award, the Rutherford Medal.

Chen Jian joined the Development Research Center of the State Council, the top advisory body for the Chinese central government, in 1985. He has since served in the International Affairs Department of S & T Daily, and the international technology and economy sector of the Development Research Center of the State Council. Since 2013, he has served as the Deputy Director General of International Affairs Department in the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).

Mitsunobu R. Kano received a Ph.D in medicine from the University of Tokyo. He has served as lecturer at the University of Tokyo, specially appointed fellow at the Japan Science and Technology Agency Center for Research and Development Strategy, and committee member at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Strategic Research Monitoring. He was appointed Professor at the University of Okayama in 2012.

Naoya Kaneko is Professor of Research Initiatives and Promotion Organization at the Yokohama National University. After studying applied chemistry at the University of Tokyo, he joined Hitachi Chemical Company, Ltd, where he worked until 1990. Since then, he has served as senior researcher at the Japan Research Institute, Ltd., and fellow at the JST Center for Research and Development Strategy before taking up his current position in 2014.

Mariko Takahashi is senior staff writer at The Asahi Shimbun, one of Japan's leading newspapers and vice president of the Japanese Association of Science and Technology Journalists.She was employed by The Asahi Shimbun as a journalist in 1979, and has been staff writer of science news section, Tokyo, staff writer and editor of Monthly Science KAGAKU ASAHI, deputy editor of the science news section, Osaka, editorial writer and science editor.Nowadays she contributes stories to WEBRONZA, an opinion website maintained by The Asahi Shimbun.She holds a B.Sc. Tatsuo Tomita is Chairman of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. He was appointed Chairman in April 2014, after serving as President of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. from 2010 to March 2014. Prior to leading Fujitsu Laboratories, He had an illustrious career at Fujitsu Limited spanning over three decades in which we held various positions in computer and mobile phone-related groups, including appointments as Member of the Board and Corporate Senior Vice President. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in physics from the University of Tokyo. He has been working committee member of the Council on Compititiveness-Nippon (COCN) since 2011.

She has served on the Council for Science and Technology Policy, the Board of Education of Sendai city, and was Deputy-Directory of the OECD Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry before taking up her current position in 2013.

Miyoko O. Watanabe trained in physics at the Tokyo University of Science, and has since held research positions at the Toshiba R&D Center in Japan, Dalhousie University, Canada, and the University of Birmingham, UK. She returned to Toshiba in 1999 and served as Executive Quality Leader before joining the Japan Science and Technology Agency in 2013. She serves as Chairperson of Committee on Comprehensive Synthetic Engineering, Science Council of Japan.

Satoru Ohtake joined the science and technology administration in the Government of Japan in 1984, after receiving an M.S. in physics from the University of Tokyo. He has since engaged in policy planning and R&D management, and establishing the Government's Science and Technology Basic Plans (1996, 2001 and 2011). Since 2013, he has been in charge of overall management of JST as deputy to the JST president, as well as managing international affairs, science and technology information exchange and dissemination, and science communication programs.
