[Hikari Tomori] Controlling electron transport in atomic layers by strain-induced gauge fields for electronics applications

Outline

Graphene, an atomic layer of carbon, has a peculiar property that lattice strain generates pseudo vector and scalar potentials. In this project, we explore the feasibility of atomic-layer nano-electronics based on this property, i.e., by controlling spatial variation of lattice strain, we aim to create a transport gap which is sufficient to realize graphene field effect transistors while maintaining its high electron mobility.
