In this research, a deep-ultraviolet light source delivering high-energy monocycle laser pulses will be developed. The light source with a high pulse energy and the extremely short pulse duration has not been available in the world. The monocycle laser will allow one to investigate novel types of light-matter interactions in the deep-ultraviolet. Moreover, the light source will pave the way to realizing a monocycle x-ray free-electron laser, allowing observation of light-matter interactions taking place in the unprecedented time scale of zeptosecond (10-21 s).
