Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP) Information on Japan (JST) - New Zealand(MBIE) Joint Call 2024 on Disaster Mitigation, Response and Recovery

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), in cooperation with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) of New Zealand, will support international joint research under the Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP). Proposals for joint research projects are invited as follows.
*MBIE will announce details of this joint call in early August on MBIE Catalyst Fund Website.

Details of Support

JST will support up to three (3) collaborative projects.
Projects selected for funding in this call will each receive support for a period of three (3) years and totaling no more than 18,000,000 JPY including indirect costs.

Application Procedure

  • The joint proposal and Japanese application information should be submitted electronically via the Cross-Ministerial R&D Management System (e-Rad).
  • The New Zealand Principal Investigator will have to register their application information to MBIE through Pītau (the MBIE Investment Management System).

Notes

  • "Compliance agreement" (included in the Application Form (Japanese Side)) require the stamp from the head of the institution. In the case of a university, it is the president, and not the dean of the faculty or the head of the department. It is not necessary to send the original by mail. If you wish to omit the official seal, please follow the prescribed procedures at the institution before submitting the form.
  • The Japanese PI must complete the program on research ethics. Unless applicants complete a research ethics program, their application will be deemed ineligible for funding.
  • When research institutions are national or municipal organizations, such institutions concluding research contracts are obliged to implement necessary budgetary measures before entering research contracts for which they are responsible. Please confirm with your institution and contact JST before submitting.
