2015 Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Action: Transformations to Sustainability

(Last update: Jan 26, 2015)

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), in order to promote international research interaction and exchange among researchers in Japan, and as a part of its involvement in the Belmont Forum, is accepting proposals for collaborative research networking projects in the field of "scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services".

Summary

The Belmont Forum is an international group of funding agencies and scientific organisations that are involved in support of global environmental change research, that aims to further accelerate and develop work in that field by mobilizing researchers and funding through international cooperation, in order to tackle the various challenges facing the sustainability of human society. The activities of the Belmont Forum comprise strengthening engagement among global research communities and improving coordination of strategies, priorities and funding of global change research.
Each year, the Belmont Forum conducts Collaborative Research Actions (CRA often including a call for proposals) in parallel, in various fields. CRAs were launched for the first time in 2012 in the research fields of "freshwater security" and "coastal vulnerability". In 2013 a CRA in the field of "food security and land-use change" was carried out, and in 2014 CRAs were launched in the fields of "scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services" and "Arctic Observing and Research for Sustainability".

For more information on the Belmont Forum, please visit their website:

Rather than being implemented as a regular Belmont Forum CRA, this call is in fact a joint call between JST, the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa. In addition, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) will also provide some support. JST is participating in this call as a part of its Belmont Forum activities in order to closely align this call with the Belmont Forum "Transformations to Sustainability" 2015 CRA.
