The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), in the interest of promoting international research interaction and exchange among researchers in Japan and also as part of its involvement in the Belmont Forum, is accepting proposals for collaborative research networking projects in the call Towards Sustainability of Soils & Groundwater for Society.

■Summary

The Belmont Forum is an international group of funding agencies and scientific organisations that are involved in support of global environmental change research, that aims to further accelerate and develop work in that field by mobilizing researchers and funding through international cooperation, in order to tackle the various challenges related to sustainability issues. The activities of the Belmont Forum comprise strengthening engagement among global research communities and improving coordination of strategies, priorities and funding of global change research.
The Belmont Forum conducts Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs - often including a call for proposals), in various fields. Joint calls for CRAs were launched for the first time in 2012 in the research fields of Freshwater Security and Coastal Vulnerability. After that a number of joint calls have been carried out in the fields of Food Security and Land Use Change (2013), Arctic Observing and Research for Sustainability and Scenarios of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (2014), Climate Predictability and Inter-Regional Linkage (2015), Sustainable Urbanisation Global Initiative: Food-Water-Energy Nexus (2016), Transformations to Sustainability (2017), Science-driven e-Infrastructures Innovation" (2018), Transdisciplinary Research for Ocean Sustainability (2019), Disaster Risk, Reduction and Resilience (DR3) and Resilience in Rapidly Changing Arctic Systems (2019).
