2015 Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Action: Climate Predictability and Inter-Regional Linkage

(Last update: Apr 1, 2015)

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), in order to promote international research interaction and exchange among researchers in Japan, and as a part of its involvement in the Belmont Forum, is accepting proposals for collaborative research networking projects in the field of "Climate Predictability and Inter-Regional Linkage".

Summary

The Belmont Forum is an international group of funding agencies and scientific organisations that are involved in support of global environmental change research, that aims to further accelerate and develop work in that field by mobilizing researchers and funding through international cooperation, in order to tackle the various challenges facing the sustainability of human society. The activities of the Belmont Forum comprise strengthening engagement among global research communities and improving coordination of strategies, priorities and funding of global change research.
Each year, the Belmont Forum conducts Collaborative Research Actions (CRA - often including a call for proposals) in parallel, in various fields. CRAs were launched for the first time in 2012 in the research fields of "freshwater security" and "coastal vulnerability", and in 2013 a joint call for a CRA in the field of "food security and land-use change" was carried out. In 2014, in two CRAs, "Arctic Observing and Research for Sustainability" and "Scenarios of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services" joint calls were carried out. In 2015, the research field of "Transformations to Sustainability" was launched, as a related field of Belmont forum CRA.

As part of its CRA activities for 2014, the Belmont Forum is launching a joint call for research proposals in the field of "Climate Predictability and Inter-Regional Linkage", in which it will accept proposals for multi-lateral (involving contributions from 3 or more countries) collaborative research projects. Following joint evaluation of proposals, selected projects will be jointly funded by the participating agencies.
