Activities of JST Washington, D.C. Office

In order to enhance scientific cooperation between Japan and the United States, JST Washington, D.C. Office is:

  • Promoting and coordinating US-Japan collaborative research programs in science and technology;
  • Collecting and reporting on science and technology policies and R&D trends in the United States;
  • Developing and supporting various JST activities in the Americas; and
  • Serving as a liaison between JST and various organizations, agencies, and researchers in the region.

History of JST Washington, D.C. Office

  • October 1988
    The Japan Information Center of Science and Technology (JICST) established an office in Washington, D.C. in order to actively promote the exchange of information on science and technology between Japan and the United States.
  • October 1996
    JICST and Research Development of Corporation of Japan (JRDC) merged and began operation as the Japan Science and Technology Corporation (pre-cursor to JST).
  • April 2002
    The Japan Science and Technology Corporation stationed a resident officer in Washington, D.C.
  • October 2003
    The Japan Science and Technology Corporation was dissolved and an independent administrative institution, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) was founded.
  • December 2004
    JST Washington, D.C. Office was established.
