J-STAGE celebrates 20th anniversary and achieves registration of 3000 journals:

—distributing Japanese research output to the world

JST is celebrating the 20th anniversary of J-STAGE, Japan’s electronic journal platform for science and technology information. Launched in 1999, on January 7, 2020, J-STAGE successfully achieved the registration of 3,000 journals.

In 1999, the scholarly publishing industries of some countries had already introduced electronic journal publishing to coincide with the worldwide spread of the Internet. As the infrastructure required for electronic journal publishing had not yet been established in Japan, only three journals were registered with J-STAGE.

In the 20 years since, we have carefully observed international trends in scholarly information distribution, as we have sought to meet global standards and in cooperation with academic societies, to constantly improve the systems and services offered by J-STAGE. Now, as J-STAGE celebrates its 20th anniversary, its success as a world-leading platform for science and technology information is reflected in its 3,000 registered scientific journals.

JST aims to accelerate the speed of communication and ensure the internationalization of the science and technology information published in Japan through enhancing the services offered by J-STAGE.
