Moonshot Goal 10: International Workshop on Fusion Energy

To meet the high expectations on fusion energy to simultaneously solve our energy and environmental problems, various approaches are being taken in other countries and the private sector to develop advanced technologies, by which disruptive innovation may emerge to become game changers.

Moonshot Goal 10 aims to "Realization of a dynamic society in harmony with the global environment and free from resource constraints, through diverse applications of fusion energy , by 2050." We will strengthen the support for challenging research and development based on a backcast approach from a future society in which diverse applications of fusion energy are realized.

The Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) will organize an international workshop to publicize Moonshot Goal 10. We aim to promote the participation of researchers from industry, academia, and government, and discuss expectations for future fusion R&D.

　フュージョンエネルギーは、エネルギー問題と地球環境問題を同時に解決する次世代のエネルギーとして期待されています。他国や民間企業においては、先進的な技術の開発に向けた多様な取り組みを実施しており、これらの活動から独創的な新興技術が生まれゲームチェンジャーになる可能性があります。

　ムーンショット目標10は、「2050年までに、フュージョンエネルギーの多面的な活用により、地球環境と調和し、資源制約から解き放たれた活力ある社会を実現」することを目指すもので、フュージョンエネルギーの多様な応用が実現した未来社会からのバックキャスト的なアプローチによる挑戦的な研究開発の支援を強化します。

　このたび、内閣府、文部科学省、科学技術振興機構（JST）は、ムーンショット目標10に関する国際シンポジウムを開催します。本シンポジウムの開催を通じて、ムーンショット目標10を世界に広く周知し、世界中の産学官の研究者の参画を推進するとともに、ムーンショット目標10の研究開発への期待等について議論します。
