R&D Project
Goal 1 R&D Projects (Selected in 2022)Realization of a Society that can Use Cybernetic Avatars Safely and Securely
Project manager (PM)SHIMPO FumioProfessor, Faculty of Policy Management, Keio University
Summary of the project
To ensure safe and secure use of Cybernetic Avatars in society, constructing a CA Safety and Security Infrastructure through CA operator authentication (remote operator authentication), CA identification and authentication (CA authentication), and verification of legitimate CA’s (CA notarization). We establish conformity assessment systems for CA social implementation and resolve social and institutional challenges for realizing Avatar lifestyle by identifying Ethical, Economic, Environmental, Legal, and Social Issues (E3LSI: ‘E-cubed-ELSI’) and developing proposals for resolving technical and institutional issues domestically and internationally.
Milestone by year 2030
【E3LSI Issues and Policy Development】
Developing an institutional framework for balancing individual rights protection with CA safety/security infrastructure systems, will construct safe and secure CA social acceptance infrastructure, and establish integrated authentication systems for physical and virtual CAs through CA conformity assessment system proposals. E3LSI research infrastructure and research systems capable of guiding solutions to issues necessary for CA research/development and social implementation are established, enabling immediate and timely responses to E3LSI issues.
【Building an Infrastructure to Ensure CA Safety and Security】
By 2030, this aims to realize a society where anyone can live with extended physical, cognitive and perceptual capabilities by constructing CA safety/security infrastructure and social acceptance infrastructure composed of remote operator authentication, CA authentication, and CA notarization. This will deter operator impersonation, CA hijacking, illegal acquisition of skills/experience information accumulated in CA’s (illegal skill acquisition), and skill imitation using CA’s, realizing safe, secure and highly reliable CA operating environments.
Milestone by year 2025
We propose applicable remote operator authentication, CA authentication, and CA notarization technologies for Socio-CA and In-Body CA’s developed by other projects, and construct safety and security infrastructure ensuring CA safety in each CA service demonstration experiment by combining these technologies. This deters operator impersonation, CA hijacking, and illegal acquisition of information accumulated in CA’s, realizing safe, secure and highly reliable CA operation. Through examination of issues necessary for establishing systems required for CA safety and security infrastructure construction and comprehensive overview of individual E3LSI issues, we aim to establish research systems capable of comprehensive and sustainable research on CA E3LSI issues, implementing efforts toward E3LSI research infrastructure construction and policy development of CA research domestically and internationally.
