The interaction between endothelium and myocardium mediated by humoral factors has important roles in cardiovascular homeostasis and development. We recently found that the interaction between endothelium and myocardium through angiopoietin-1 plays a critical role in the coronary vessel formation. The present study aims to reveal the physiological and pathological role of myocardium-derived angiopoietin-1 in the coronary angiogenesis and pulmonary arterial hypertension. The findings obtained from the present study will help us develop novel therapeutic strategies for the related cardiovascular diseases.
