Constructing Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence 2.0 for the Coexistence of Human Being with Information Technology
Project Outline
Though artificial intelligence research has made great progress in the last 10 years, genuine artificial general intelligence has not been realized yet. The urgent questions for us would be, then, what are the theoretical obstacles to realize artificial general intelligence and what are possible with the kind of AI that can be realized in the near future.
In this project, we will start from the reassessment of the past philosophical debates about the possibility and the impossibility of AI, update them so that they can match the state of the art of AI research, and construct the conceptual framework for thinking about the relationship between human beings and AI. Through working on the key question 'Can AI have virtue?', we will examine the possibility of extension of human capabilities with AI and the possibility of cooperation between human intelligence and artificial intelligence.
