Sustainable rural development : green transportation for mountainous villages

A commissioned research of sustainable rural development has been performed. This is an interim report of the research. Following facts have been identified as challenges facing Kinasa district: (1) A decline in employment opportunity leading to an aging population; (2)Aging, abandoned farmland, and dilapidated mountain; (3) Fossil fuel dependent society; (4)Decreased autonomy due to the merger with the city of Nagano. To these challenges, some countermeasures have been proposed.
