Department of International Affairs

On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), represented by President HASHIMOTO Kazuhito, and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), represented by CEO Professor Sir Ian Chapman, signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on science and technology at 10 Downing Street.

The signing ceremony was held on the occasion of Prime Minister TAKAICIHI Sanae's visit to the United Kingdom.

JST and UKRI have been supporting a wide range of joint Japan-UK research in advanced science and technology fields that are important to both countries, including semiconductors, biotechnology, AI and information technologies, and quantum science. With the signing of this MoC, it is expected that science and technology cooperation between Japan and the UK will be further strengthened, including through the promotion of researcher exchange and joint research.
