The Center for Low Carbon Society Strategy (LCS) published [Survey Report FY2021] “Toward Future Low-Carbon Society using Scrap Iron Recycling: Use of recycled steel and CO2 emissions in venues of the 2020 Tokyo Games.”

At the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government applied the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Checklist of Planned (Actual) Use of Environmental Products to Tokyo’s facilities to select products that can reduce CO2 emissions during manufacturing, such as recycled steel.

In this report, we made comparisons between the Tokyo Games and other Olympic Games, including the London Games, and summarized the effectiveness of the checklist through precise calculations of CO2 emissions based on the amount of steel used in the construction of facilities and the percentage of recycled steel materials.
