Call for ideas for deciding Prioritized Themes of the JST-Mirai Program

The JST-Mirai program (Small-start Type) sets technologically challenging goals with clear targets (exits) designed to produce beneficial economic and social impacts by considering potential social and industrial needs. In an attempt to reach a stage (proof of concept: POC) where application feasibility may be judged, the R&D for prospective projects take advantage of the promising results produced by prior programs such as Strategic Basic Research Program and Grants-in- Aid for Scientific Research. The R&D project is based on the “prioritized theme” set by JST according to technological subject areas curated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

JST broadly calls for ideas that will be helpful for setting “prioritized theme” in the new areas. We invite anyone regardless of age and affiliation (company, university, individual, etc.) to participate in this call for ideas.

1. Open Call Description

With adding three new areas in the JST-Mirai Program, JST calls for ideas regarding:

  • creating a future society realized by science and technology;
  • creating a future society that meets industry needs;
  • impacts on economy and society that meet the needs of future society.

2. Open Call Release

* The ideas submitted by March 8th (Mon) will be referred in setting the “prioritized theme” for FY2021. The ideas submitted after March 9th (Thu) will be referred in setting the “prioritized theme” from FY 2022.
