The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) decided the winners of the 1st Brilliant Female Researchers Award (The Jun Ashida Award) (Attachment 1). The awards ceremony will be held at Miraikan on November 17 (Sun), 2019.

We received 104 applications for the Brilliant Female Researcher Award and 12 applications for the Award for an Organization Supporting Brilliant Female Researchers during the very first application period from April 1 to June 30, 2019. After a screening by a selection committee consisting of external experts (Attachment 2), the winners of one Brilliant Female Researcher Award (The Jun Ashida Award) and one Organization Supporting Brilliant Female Researchers Award (The Jun Ashida Award) were decided upon.

Moreover, we specially set up the Brilliant Female Researcher Award (The JST President Award) this time because there was an awardee who was equally eligible to win the Brilliant Female Researcher Award (The Jun Ashida Award). At the awards ceremony, JST will present a trophy and certificate to each winner, and the Ashida Fund^*) will offer a supplementary prize of one million yen to a winner of the Brilliant Female Researcher Award (The Jun Ashida Award). A talk session is also scheduled to be held with the participation of the award winners and some next-generation youth mainly composed of high school students.
