JST decided to start two new projects in collaboration with EU within the framework of the Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP*1))(Appendix 1).
Based on intergovernmental agreements on science and technology cooperation, JST has been executing the international joint research program SICORP since FY2009, together with leading countries and regions in research fields that have been strategically prioritized by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT). The European Commission opened a call in its HORIZON 2020*2) program in the field of “Technologies for first responders”. JST funds researchers from Japan in a participating consortium which applies to either of the following two subtopics of the “Technologies for first responders” call (Appendix 2).
- - Sub-topic 1: Victim-detection technologies
- - Sub-topic: Open
A total of 16 proposals were submitted to JST. Based on the results of scientific evaluations among experts from both Japan and EU and consultations between JST and European Commission, it is decided that JST is to fund two research projects (Appendix 3).
The research period is planned to be three years.
