Symposium
About
In the MILLENNIA Program from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), 21 young teams are brainstorming their vision for an ideal future society and investigating the necessary R&D strategies including targets for 2030 and 2050. Each of their proposed Moonshot Goal(*) candidates will soon be summarized in an “Initiative Report”, using results of their 6-month investigation. Each of the team leaders will have presentations on their visions for society and scenario for realization.
*With the aim to develop radical solutions for difficult societal issues of various kinds, the Moonshot R&D Program will set ambitious Moonshot Goals to inspire people around the world and leverage the world’s foremost scientific knowledge to orchestrate challenging research and development to achieve these goals. The COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts have forced us to create new Moonshot Goals aimed at tackling the challenges of our post-crisis society and economy. As it is today’s youth that will be responsible for tomorrow’s society, we must incorporate the flexible and unconventional thinking of young people when setting goals for the ‘new normal’. After the investigation research period, JST will select the most suitable Moonshot Goal candidates and present them to the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation. Once the CSTI makes its final selection, JST will begin holding calls for proposals for projects to participate in the newly selected Moonshot Goal(s).
