"Gaps in Ethics 3" Gray Zones in Research Activities Natural Sciences Version

Story

Associate Professor Fujita, of Shunsei University, an instructor who cares about her students, has been eagerly providing guidance on research ethics education and the submission of papers. Although there should be enough opportunities to learn about research ethics in the Fujita lab, Kato, a graduate student who is a member of the lab, realizes omissions of citations in his own past papers and wonders what to do about it. One day, Associate Professor Fujita's past paper is suspected of being salami publication. Confused by the sudden situation, Associate Professor Fujita consults with the staff around her and her former professor, and looks back on her past activities. Both Kato, in his position as a student, and his supervisor, Associate Professor Fujita, face situations involving research ethics issues through their own past research activities.
