Towards Ideal iPS Cells for Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine using a Human Artifi cial Chromosome (HAC)

Research Project Outline

This study aims 1)Induction of safe iPS cells using human artifi cial chromosome (HAC) which has several characteristics i.e., stable episomal maintenance that avoids insertional mu-tations and the ability to carry large and multiple gene inserts including their regulatory elements, and 2)Basic study on gene and cell therapy for Duchenne's muscular dystrophy and dia-betes, using the HAC containing defective gene and several genes for induction and monitoring of differentiation.
